We hope you enjoy reading about our recent trip to Cardenas Cuba in July. While there, we worshiped with the youth of our sister church in Cienfuegos, made new friends and brought needed supplies and medicines. It was an incredible experience for all of us – one that changed our lives and those of the people we met. A special thanks to all the generous members of St. Paul's By-the-Sea who gave their time, talent and treasure to make this amazing journey possible!
We Visit John Lennon Park
It's our last evening in Havana and we decide to visit John Lennon Park in the Vedado district, a few blocks from the Cathedral. There is a bronze statue of John sitting on a park bench that was unveiled in December of 2000. It's a quiet, special place with families and young children enjoying the evening. On a marble tile at the foot of the bench there is an inscription reading: "Dirás que soy un soñador pero no soy el único" John Lennon, which is a Spanish translation of the English lyrics, "You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one," from the song "Imagine." I hope that someday John Lennon's dream of a world where we live as one will come true for Americans and Cubans alike. I believe our trip has been a small step toward that dream.
